Anthropic Launches Claude Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1 with Better Coding and Research Capabilities
Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has officially introduced two powerful new AI models—Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1—marking another major step forward in advanced AI development. The latest models are designed to deliver stronger performance in software development, scientific research, and complex knowledge-based tasks while also introducing more refined safety measures. With these improvements, Anthropic aims to make AI systems more useful for everyday professionals without compromising responsible deployment.
Unlike previous releases, the two models serve different audiences despite sharing the same underlying architecture. Claude Fable 5.1 is the public-facing model intended for developers, researchers, businesses, and general enterprise users. Claude Mythos 5.1, on the other hand, is a restricted version available only to selected organizations working in cybersecurity and life sciences. This approach allows Anthropic to offer highly capable AI tools while limiting access to features that could potentially be misused.
One of the biggest improvements in Claude Fable 5.1 is its ability to handle long-running and complex coding tasks. According to Anthropic, the model performs significantly better than its predecessor, Claude Fable 5, especially when solving problems that require multiple reasoning steps or extended context. Developers can use the model for debugging applications, generating code, reviewing software projects, explaining technical documentation, and automating repetitive programming tasks. The improvements also make it more effective at assisting engineering teams working on large software projects.
Anthropic has also focused on reducing operating costs. The company says that typical workloads using Fable 5.1 are approximately 25 percent cheaper, while highly agentic tasks—where the AI performs multiple connected actions—can cost up to 45 percent less than before. Most of these savings come from a significant reduction in cache-read pricing, allowing developers to reuse previously processed information much more efficiently without increasing overall API expenses.
Beyond programming, Claude Fable 5.1 has been optimized for knowledge work and research. It is capable of analyzing lengthy documents, summarizing technical papers, organizing information, answering complex questions, and assisting with business research. Professionals working in finance, education, healthcare, consulting, and legal services may benefit from the model’s ability to process large volumes of information while maintaining context across long conversations.
Anthropic also shared benchmark results demonstrating the model’s improved capabilities. On internal and industry-standard coding evaluations, Fable 5.1 outperformed its earlier versions in several categories related to software engineering and scientific reasoning. While benchmark scores should not be considered the only measure of AI quality, they indicate that the model has become more reliable when handling real-world technical challenges.
The company highlighted several practical demonstrations to showcase the model’s capabilities. In one example, Fable 5.1 reportedly helped investigate a rare software crash that had remained unresolved for years by identifying a bug inside a third-party software library. In another demonstration, the model assisted researchers in creating a higher-resolution elevation map of Venus using historical NASA Magellan mission data. Anthropic also reported encouraging results in protein binder design through Mythos 5.1, although these findings were conducted under controlled testing environments and should be viewed as company-reported research rather than independent scientific validation.
Security remains one of Anthropic’s primary priorities. The company has introduced updated safeguards that reportedly reduce unnecessary security interventions by around 60 percent for developers using Claude Code. These improvements aim to minimize false positives while still preventing the model from generating harmful cybersecurity content. Defensive security tasks such as vulnerability analysis remain supported, but activities involving exploit generation or offensive penetration testing continue to be restricted for public users.

Claude Mythos 5.1 follows a different strategy. Because of its advanced capabilities in cybersecurity and biological research, access is currently limited to trusted professionals through Anthropic’s verified access programs. The company believes that restricting availability helps reduce the risk of misuse while allowing qualified researchers to benefit from the model’s advanced reasoning abilities. Anthropic has stated that broader access may become available in the future as additional safeguards are developed.
The release of Fable 5.1 and Mythos 5.1 reflects a growing trend among AI companies to balance innovation with responsible deployment. As AI models become more capable, organizations are placing greater emphasis on safety, transparency, and controlled access to advanced features. Anthropic’s dual-model strategy demonstrates its effort to provide powerful AI tools for businesses and developers while carefully managing technologies that could have broader security implications.
Claude Fable 5.1 is now available through Anthropic’s platform as well as major cloud providers, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. With stronger coding performance, improved reasoning, lower operating costs, and more refined safety systems, the new models position Anthropic as one of the leading competitors in the rapidly evolving AI industry. As businesses increasingly adopt AI-powered workflows, these latest releases are expected to play an important role in shaping the future of software development, scientific research, and enterprise productivity.
